Deadline Extended on 2017 Award Nominations
The deadline for nominations to the Mayo Association Dublin awards for ‘Mayo Person of the Year’; ‘Meitheal of the Year’ and our inaugural ‘Young Mayo Person of the Year’ has been extended to FRIDAY 16 DECEMBER!
Friday 16 December is the deadline to submit your nominations for the ‘Mayo Person of the Year’ , ‘Meitheal of the Year’ and our inaugural ‘Young Mayo Person of the Year’ Awards for 2017.
Through these awards, Mayo Association Dublin wishes to acknowledge those ‘working behind the scenes’ within our communities . We are seeking nominations for those individuals or groups whom the members of the public believe should receive such recognition through these prestigious awards.
The Awards Ceremony is one of the highlights of the year and will be held at a gala dinner on Friday 10 February 2017 in the Ballsbridge Hotel, Dublin.
*The Virginia Gallagher Mayo Person of the Year Award has been awarded to a host of well-known Mayo people over the years, such as the late Monsignor James Horan, An Taoiseach Enda Kenny, pop impresario Louis Walsh and former Mayo football manager James Horan. The 2016 winner was Tommy Griffith, founder and CEO of PEL Waste Reduction company.
To qualify for the ‘Mayo Person of the Year’ award the person must have been born in Mayo, or of Mayo parentage, or have lived in Mayo for not less than seven years and who has made an exceptional contribution to Mayo or its people.
*The Meitheal of the Year Award will be presented to a voluntary group or organisation based in Mayo, whose majority of its membership were born in Mayo or are of Mayo parentage and who have achieved the greatest distinction or done most for the county or its people. Previous Meitheal winners include Charlestown St Attracta’s National School (2014), Dolmen House (2015) and Heroes for Hospice (2016).
*The Young Mayo Person of the Year Award will be presented to a young person under the age of 25, who lives in Mayo, was born or has lived in Mayo for seven years. The new award will recognise ‘any endeavours which have provided significant social, community, leadership or economic benefit to society that reflects positively on Mayo’.
MAKING A NOMINATION
A submission, required to make a nomination in any of the award categories, should include any relevant information on the contribution of the nominee to Mayo (directly and indirectly) including newspaper articles, photographs, etc.
Nominations should be presented in bound hard copy and submitted in triplicate (by post) to Ms Julie Doyle, Hon. Secretary, Mayo Association Dublin, 104 Ramleh Park, Milltown, Dublin 6 with a copy by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The deadline for all award nominations has been extended to Friday 16 December (posted no later than Thursday 15 December). Any submissions received after this date will not be eligible for consideration by the adjudicating panel.
The Committee and members of Mayo Association Dublin are not involved in the selection of the award winners. Each year, the Committee of the Association selects an independent panel of three adjudicators to whom qualifying nominations are passed on for consideration.
The award winners will be announced in mid-January 2017 and they will be guests of honour at Mayo Association Dublin’s Annual Awards Gala Banquet, which will be held next year at Dublin’s Ballsbridge Hotel on Friday 10 February 2017.
