The Mayo Association in Dublin is holding its Annual Summer BBQ on Thursday evening 17 th June in the capital. The purpose of this evening is to encourage new members into the association and provide the Mayo diaspora in Dublin and its environs, with both ‘meet & greet' and networking opportunity.
The BBQ will take place in the Sub Lounge Bar on Tara Street (formerly O'Reilly's) from 7pm and is particularly aimed at those Mayo people working or living in Dublin who haven't had the opportunity yet of meeting with and/or joining Mhuintir Mhaigh Eo Atha Cliatha. The BBQ and drinks will be very informal and based on last summer's event – a large number of Mayo people are expected. The Sub Lounge Bar is managed by Charlestown man Padraig Murray who has kindly sponsored the BBQ.
The Mayo Association in the capital is one of the best-supported and active county associations in the country. It celebrated its 100 th birthday in 2006 and enjoys a membership of in excess of 600 Mayo people. Amongst the highlights in their annual calendar is the Business Lunch, held in November of each year and of course, the renowned Mayo Person of the Year and Mheithal award dinner held each February. Added to that, are many other events throughout the year which give Mayo people in Dublin a great opportunity to meet up with each other and network.
In addition to networking and relationship building, the Mayo Association Dublin is particularly focused on supporting both cultural and charitable causes within, or related to the county and annually contributes to many worthy groups in helping them realize their goals.
The President of Mhuintir Mhaigheo Atha Cliatha is AJ Prendergast, who took over at the Chain of Office following this year's AGM in April. The Association's chairperson is Sean Reid from Charlestown , the secretary is Francis O'Malley from Newport and treasurer is Carmel Heaney (Conlon) from Bohola. This year, we welcome four new members to our committee; Alexandra Henry, Charlestown ; Jennifer Jordan, Straide; Paul Sammin, Louisberg and Pat Downes. Other committee members of the association come from the four corners of the county.
