Summer BBQ tunes into YouTube Channel!
Our YouTube channel will share information on Mayo Association Dublin and also highlight updates and events, in addition to hosting interviews with both younger and older members. “It’s there to let Mayo people know this is what we do…….and this is what we can do!” Julie noted.
She briefly outlined a number of new events in the pipeline for the Association. These will include the launch of the Mayo Schools Debating Competition in September for all the schools in Mayo, followed by a Grand Final in Dublin in November.
Former President of Ireland, Dr Mary Robinson, has kindly agreed to be patron of the competition, Prof. Thomas Mitchell, a former Provost of Trinity College Dublin is also on board, whilst former Supreme Court Judge Ms Justice Mary Laffoy will be an adjudicator.
Meanwhile, the Association will also re-run the Medal Design Competition for the ‘Young Mayo Person of the Year Award’, following the phenomenal success of the competition launched last year, which attracted over 28,000 hits on our Facebook Page.
This year our Annual Business Lunch will celebrate its 21st anniversary and takes place yet again in the InterContinental Hotel on Friday 10 November. Watch this space for an exciting line-up and book your tickets in advance as seats will sell out very quickly!
We wish Sandra all the best as she flies the Green and Red Flag for Mayo at the International Rose of Tralee Festival (16-22 August).
Mayo Association Dublin was also delighted to welcome James J. Waldron, the President of the County Mayo Foundation. James recently retired as Clerk of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey after 32 years and a total of 41 with the Judiciary.
The primary objective of the County Mayo Foundation is to support charity, community, educational and sporting activity in County Mayo.
It also supports Mayo people across the United States in their not-for-profit activities both in their home cities and in support of the county.
The huge number of guests at this year’s summer bash were treated to a delicious gourmet BBQ, Mayo-themed Concullin Gin & Tonic provided by Connacht Whiskey Distillery not to mention great craic, so yet another great MAD night was had by one and all!
This year’s MAD Party venue also had a strong Mayo connection – the general manager of Lemon & Duke, John Ennis, hails from Castlebar. This trendy gastro bar on Royal Hibernian Way (just off Grafton Street) is owned by Irish Rugby stars Jamie Heaslip, Sean O’Brien, Rob and Dave Kearney.
