New ‘Young Mayo Person of the Year’ Award 2017

New ‘Young Mayo Person of the Year’ Award 2017

We are now calling for nominations to be made for the ‘Young Mayo Person of the Year’ 2017 – a new award which we have recently launched to recognise and reward the contribution and achievements of young people in Mayo.

This award will be presented to a young person under the age of 25, who lives in Mayo or was born or has lived in Mayo for seven years. It will recognise his or her endeavours, which have provided significant social, community, leadership, or economic benefit to society, and which reflects positively on Mayo.

A submission should include any relevant information on the contribution of the nominee to Mayo (directly and indirectly), including newspaper articles, photographs, etc.

The Committee and members of Mayo Association Dublin are not involved in the selection of the winners of these awards. Each year, the Committee of the Association selects an independent panel of three adjudicators to whom qualifying nominations are passed on for consideration.

(a) A specially commissioned medal and award certificate, which will be presented at the Mayo Association Dublin Annual Awards Gala Banquet;
(b) A bursary which could be used by the winner to continue their social, community or personal endeavours. The purpose to which the award would be used will be confirmed and agreed with Mayo Association Dublin. The bursary has been kindly sponsored by our President, Dr. Mona McGarry.
(c) A programme of events throughout the year – to include speaking engagements for the winner with other young Mayo people.

Persons over 18 are requested to nominate a young person, via a written submission as to the suitability of the person under the following headings:
(a) Their achievement and/or potential and how it relates to the matters which the award is designed to recognise
(b) Their connection to Mayo
(c) Any newspaper articles or references to back up the nomination
(d) Examples if possible of work carried out e.g. flyers for charitable events
(e) Their future potential as an ambassador for the county and the association.

Nominations should be presented in bound hard copy and submitted in triplicate (by post) to Julie Doyle, Honorary Secretary, Mayo Association Dublin, 104 Ramleh Park, Milltown, Dublin 6. A copy should also be emailed to

The deadline for nominations is Friday 9 December (posted no later than Thursday 8 December). Any submissions received after this date will not be eligible for consideration by the adjudicating panel.

The winner will be announced in mid-January 2017 and will join the ‘Mayo Person of the Year’ and ‘Meitheal of the Year’ as guests of honour at Mayo Association Dublin’s Annual Awards Gala Banquet, which will be held at Dublin’s Ballsbridge Hotel on Friday 10 February 2017.
