Success for Swinford Student in Medal Design Competition

Success for Swinford Student in Medal Design Competition

Congratulations to Transition Year student Katie Cosgrave from Swinford, who is the winner of our competition to design the artwork for the medal, to be awarded to our inaugural ‘Young Mayo Person of the Year’ on 10 February in Dublin’s Ballsbridge Hotel.

Sixteen-year old Katie’s design incorporates Croagh Patrick and the James Joyce Bridge, which shows two people from Mayo and Dublin climbing the mountain to reflect their achievements, with the addition of Celtic symbols around the edge to illustrate ancient drawings in Ireland.

Katie Cosgrove - winning designFor her winning design, which will be used on the medal for the ‘Young Mayo Person of the Year’ award, Katie will receive €500 for her school Scoil Muire Agus Pádraig by Designwest Kiltimagh, in addition to an internship with the design company.

We sincerely applaud the runners-up – Ailbhe O’Brien, also from School Muire Agus Padraig in Swinford, and Molly McHugh from Castlebar’s St Joseph’s Secondary School – on their amazing designs!

Our panel of adjudicators certainly had a difficult decision to make but there can be only one winner.

We also had a phenomenal response to the competition, which we ran as a public vote on our Facebook Page, so thanks to everyone who took time to cast their vote!
