Now in it sixth consecutive year, ‘MAYO DAY’ will celebrate our county’s vibrant culture and community spirit on Saturday 2 May. Since it was first launched by Mayo County Council in 2014, the ‘MAYO DAY campaign has garnered worldwide attention with events taking place locally, nationally and internationally that pay tribute to the ingenuity, pride and accomplishments of Mayo people the world over.
Last year’s campaign theme -‘The Mayo Word’ – focused on extolling the literary accomplishments of renowned novelists, poets and songwriters from this bastion of arts in the West of Ireland. Building on the incredible interest and participation in festivities during 2019, this year’s expansive theme will be ‘Creative Mayo.’
The campaign will give the people of Mayo an opportunity to explore and celebrate their creativity, ingenuity and talent, and will culminate in a flagship public event at the National Museum of Country Life in Turlough on 2 May.
