Now in its third year, our Mayo Schools’ Debating Competition will make a welcome return to Trinity College Dublin on Saturday 30 November, with teams and individual speakers from Ballinrobe, Balla, Ballina, Castlebar and Swinford making it through to the Grand Final, which will be hosted by the College Historical Society and sponsored by Mayo.ie.

The semi-finals at GMIT Mayo Campus in Castlebar took place on Saturday 9 November, with teams and individual speakers from Balla Secondary School, Ballina’s St Mary’s Secondary School and Muirdeach’s College, Ballinrobe Community School, Castlebar’s St Gerald’s College and Davitt College, Louisburgh’s Sancta Maria College and Swinford’s Scoil Mhuire Agus Padraig debating for and against four motions.

And now two teams from Ballinrobe Community School, one team from St Gerald’s College, Castlebar and one team from Balla Secondary School have made it through to the Grand Final, with individual speakers representing Balla Secondary School (1), Castlebar’s St Gerald’s College (2) and Swinford’s Scoil Mhuire Agus Padraig (1).

Mayo Association Dublin would like to congratulate these four team and four individual speaker finalists who will now debate the final motion – THAT THIS HOUSE BELIEVES THAT SOCIAL MEDIA IS DAMAGING DEMOCRACY – on Saturday 30 November.
