The Mayo Association Dublin has just launched this exciting event which is kindly supported by one of Ireland’s most famous auction houses, Gormleys. Items such as original art, sculpture, prints, vouchers, and collectables will be auctioned online 7th December 2021. All proceeds received by Mayo Association Dublin will be donated to Mayo charities. Full details on the result of the auction and beneficiaries will be published early 2022.

Sheelyn Browne, Breda Burns, Mags Duffy, Lola Donoghue, Harry Feeney, Isabel Gallagher, Pamela Gray, Chris Harper, Tina Heraty, Elsie Higgins, Cathy Hughes, Liam Jones, Marie Kenna, Christine Lynn, Padraig McCaul, Seosamh O’Dalaigh, Breege Rowley, Trisha Slowey, and Suzie Sullivan are some of the West of Ireland artists that bidders are set to feast their eyes on.

The online auction also features works by internationally acclaimed sculptors and artists namely Ronan Halpin (Achill), John Behan, Patrick O’Reilly, Geraldine Hone, John Morris, and Stephen Forbes.

Signed poetry by one of modern Ireland’s most distinctive poets, Paul Durcan, is also amongst the pile! Durcan spent much of his life holidaying and writing in Mayo. His mother, Sheila MacBride, is a Westport lady. Her uncle, Major John MacBride founded the Mayo Association Dublin in 1905. Current Chairperson, Bernardine MacBride Walsh takes pride in continuing the family heritage in the association.

Other lots include a Foxford Woolen Mills Luxury Hamper, Solid Silver Teaspoons, Carraig Donn Voucher, Super Valu Westport Shopping Voucher, Portwest Family Pack, Four Ball at Woodbrook, and vouchers for Wyatt Hotel, Westport Hotel Group (Castlecourt, Westport Plaza, Westport Coast Hotel) and SABA Restaurant!

It is fitting to mention, given our pride in the achievements of our Mayo GAA footballers over the years, a signed Mayo GAA jersey and football also feature in the auction.

Chairperson, Bernardine MacBride Walsh commented; “It gives me great pleasure to present this one off, beautifully curated auction to the world!  As a lover of art and collectables, something that was passed on to me by my parents, it seemed very fitting to run such a fundraiser given these strange covid times we still find ourselves navigating. It has been an interesting and wonderful experience meeting many of the artists and donors over the past few months. I want to thank each person and business for their trust in me and for supporting our first online charity auction. Your generosity knows no bounds. I’d also like to thank our partners in Gormleys for affording us the opportunity to use their online auction platform. Without the support of Oliver Gormley and his talented team, this passion project for Mayo charities would simply not be possible. Finally, to my team at the Mayo Association Dublin – thank you for your efforts in making this idea a reality. To our members, supporters, family, and friends, I hope you enjoy the wonders of our auction and happy bidding!”.

Important to note;

The last day to place a bid online is Tuesday 7th December 2021.

Remember to complete the information in the register tab on Gormleys webpage if you are interested in placing a bid.

Featured lot no.16 – “WESTPORT 250” by Pamela Gray.

The artist was commissioned by the Westport 250 steering group, chaired by Dermott Langan, to create a visual map of Westport highlighting some of the local landmarks.
