Congratulations to Ballinrobe Community School on winning the third year of our Mayo Schools’ Debating Competition in both the team and individual speaker categories.

‘THAT THIS HOUSE BELIEVES THAT SOCIAL MEDIA IS DAMAGING DEMOCRACY’ was the popular motion, which was once again hosted by Trinity College Dublin’s Historical Society on Saturday 30 November.

Ballinrobe’s team members Olivia Borek and Viktorija Jersova, are pictured with their teacher Esther Burke and Justice Mary Laffoy, chairperson of the judging panel, who presented the Perpetual Trophy for 2019.

Ballinrobe’s AJ Carpio is pictured below, following the presentation of the Individual Winner’s Medal for 2019, with teacher Esther Burke and Justice Mary Laffoy, chairperson of the judging panel.

Ballinrobe Community School, had two teams in the Grand Final, and overcame strong competition from St Gerald’s College in Castlebar and Balla Secondary School, while other individual speakers represented Balla Secondary SchoolCastlebar’s St Gerald’s College and Swinford’s Scoil Mhuire Agus Padraig.
