Mayo author Michael Larkin, who has written and compiled a new book ‘Making the Right Connections’, which depicts the emigrant journey and distinguished career of Thomas Larkin (one of the early telephone pioneers of America with the Bell Telephone Company in Pennsylvania) will join us at our summer party on Thursday 11 July in the Iveagh Garden Hotel.

The book, which was launched recently in Mayo County Library, Castlebar, by award-winning Midwest Radio presenter Tommy Marren, also encompasses themes relating to Irish emigration, transatlantic connectivity, evolution of telecommunications, predictions made regarding the early telephones and an overview of the social history of Ireland and Irish America in the early 1900s.

“A terrific story about a young man from a rural village in County Mayo, who made a significant contribution to the telephone industry in the early 1900s” – Terry Reilly, Chairman of 2019 Meitheal winners ‘Mayo’s Forgotten Girls’ Remembrance Group
